Guided Screenshots of Setting Permissions in Vista
You can set file and folder permissions in Vista to allow access or deny access to a complete folder and all its subfolders or a particular file.
Guided Screenshots of Setting up Deny Permissions for a user
By default all users documents and settings (their profile) are stored in a separate folder on the c:\users folder, each user does not have permissions to the other users documents and settings. Each user can access by default other files and folders on the c: unless you explicitly deny access to that folder
Denying Access
If you need for example to deny access to a specific folder on the c: drive called myfiles perform the following steps:-

Right click on the folder c:\myfiles and select Properties from the pop-up menu.

Click on Edit

If the User does not appear on top under the Group or user names then click on add

Click Advanced,

Click on Find Now, and list of all users in this case is displayed in the search results on the bottom of the screen as below.

Select the User from the List that you want to apply the specific permissions to and click OK

You can repeat the above for each user you want to apply these settings to, click OK to continue.

The User you searched for appears on the list on top of the screen under Group and user names above, you can apply the appropriate permissions to the select user by click on the appropriate column, once you have set permissions you wish (Note the object name: above - this is the object you are setting permissions for) click OK to close apply your settings.

Click yes to confirm your actions, denying permissions take precedence over allow.
Suggestion: Try it out first with a blank sample folder, its easy to deny a user permission or all users!!
