Windows XP Workstation Connected to SBS 2003 randomly and occasionally goes offline for no apparent reason
Occasionally Windows XP Clients attached to a Windows Small business Server 2003 can go offline, even though you can still ping the server and when you open the contents of a map drive to the server is shows up as empty contents even thought its not suppose to be empty. This may only affect one client or more than one. One windows XP Client could be happily on the network doing what's its doing and another one can exhibit this behavior.
I've found clearing the Offline Cache by adding the following registry key to the Windows XP workstation:-
On workstation:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache
Key Name: FormatDatabase
Key Type: DWORD
Key Value: 1 Download
Reg File
Restart workstation
The workstation will on restart clear the offline file cache and rebuild it and automatically reset the above registry key itself.
Note: Any unsynchronized documents will be lost if you perform above.
